Hurricanes sophomore Shenise Johnson led all scorers with 19 points as the Hurricanes defeated the Florida Gators 77-64 in a WNIT second round game yesterday. Johnson also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season, and added eight assists.
The Hurricanes move on to the WNIT third round on Thursday night at 7pm when they host North Carolina A&T at the BankUnited Center.

Yderstrom scored five points in the waning moments to pull Miami to within three with 32 seconds to go. But the ‘Canes turned the ball over on its next possession and Nebraska was able to seal the game with two Dominque Kelley free-throws.
Riquna Williams, who came into yesterday’s game with Houston leading the ACC with 27.5 points per game, went off for 21 second-half points and scored 28 for the day as the ‘Canes defeated the Cougars 68-54 to move to 5-0 on the season. The Pahokee, Fla. native hit four three-pointers and had two other three-point plays in the contest.
While the University of Miami women’s basketball team’s first game of the 2009-10 season isn’t until Nov. 13, the team will officially start practice today at the BankUnited Center. You can read more here.
